Mercury stations Retrograde
21st PDT 1:35 / 21st AEST 18:35
Today, Mercury stations retrograde on Taurus’ 15th degree, one of the four gates of avataric descent which mark the midpoint between equinoxes and solstices. Bearing in mind the sun’s recent ingress into Taurus, coupled with the energetic volatility of eclipse season, Mercury’s mid-sign station give off an in medias res quality. We suddenly find ourselves dropped into the middle of a conflict or quandary which was the furthest thing from our minds a week ago.
Mercury in Taurus is a real stickler. It prefers that we say things right the first time. Having to retread talking points and formulate new arguments is tiresome. Especially because changing our minds disturbs the illusion of stoic decisiveness that we’ve attempted to cultivate recently. If consistency is the foundation of our ethics, then what would it mean if we admitted to an oversight?
Fortunately, we’re not really supposed to be doing or saying the most during eclipse season, we’re supposed to be paying attention! We’re supposed to be listening. And that is something that Mercury retrograde invites us to do actively. Perhaps our logic doesn’t need to be defended now. Quiet reflection can help us to puzzle through a dilemma in ways that advocacy or avoidance can’t. Frustrating situations should be scrutinized. Consider your relationships, contracts, and appetites. Acknowledge where you feel stuck. Is this a self-imposed trap? Are you perpetuating this issue because it seems like more work to change the terms than to muscle through? Certain scripts must be revised at this time. Certain allowances questioned and reconsidered. Certain axioms or excuses redacted from your vocabulary.
Mercury’s inferior conjunction to the sun on May 1 will provide some missing information or helpful context clues that will aid the process of remediation. Make note of conversations had on this date. The messenger planet will continue to backslide through Taurus until May 14/15. Until then, watch your words.
